at first I thought you meant they were replacing their actual aircraft tires with them, lol

That was legitimately fascinating, but also funny. Well done.

I will try to explain the logic of the Russian command's actions.

Imagine that there is a threat of an airfield strike, and you have not built protective hangars, and even worse, the planes are not parked in protective structures such as a bulkhead. You need to do something, and you order the wings of the plane to be covered with car tires. They could not put them on the fuselage, because the tires fall off.

After the strike, you report that two planes were damaged, but because you ordered the wings to be covered with tires, only two were damaged, not ten (better twenty). In the report, you indicate that funds are needed to purchase thousands more tires.

As a result, you receive an award, the tire manufacturer makes a profit, and CENTCOM tries to understand what all this is for.

Now seriously. Many strikes occurred in cold weather and snow lay both on the plane and on the tires. It is doubtful that there was infrared contrast. In terms of deception, AI is much more effective in using camouflage nets of various forms of suitable camouflage.

Why do they put tires on fake planes? It's simple. If they put them on real planes, then they should put them on fake ones too.

Plus an additional reward and profit for the tire manufacturer.

Do you know if the CSIS think tank was discussing ukraine specifically, or just war technology in general?

Hi Anne, they were discussing AI in weapon systems more broadly, which led to the discussion about Ukraine and Russia - and Russia's tire strategy to defend against Ukrainian weapons.

OT but just got back from fly fishing at the Frying Pan River in Basalt CO, put it on your list Wes. Um, we had a flat tire on the rental (to pull this back on topic) and I have no idea where that flat tire is going after that occurred. Do ya think. . . . . ?

I now consider myself enlightened Wes, good work 👍. It makes sense now and I'm kind of embarrassed i didn't think that myself. I just joined in the mocking without thinking there was actually any proper logic behind it 🤷🏼‍♂️👍. I won't make that mistake again.

Next time I'll mock them AND investigate the actual reasons!
